Use Science Theme Planner to list items or activities. These will be added
to the monthly lesson plans as appropriate. Do not be afraid to have a science
theme that may not be exactly the same as the room theme.
Take time to collect REAL items that the children may look at or hold.
Add items like posters or shaker bottles. Think about special words that
will be concentrated on when the theme or activity is introduced at circle time.
Make a book list. Find or create a song for circle time. “Google” to find more
ideas and information about any part of the subject.
Put the Theme Planner with items in the box. Include recipes and add computer
software for a change of pace. Store the box with books on the subject so the theme
is ready to use. Be sure to have at least one activity to help intergrade the science area
into the rest of the lesson plans. When putting the theme away, add comments or ideas
to the bottom of the page for the next time the theme is used.
