Fossil Dough Recipe

Fossil Dough Recipe

What you need:
1/2 cup salt
1 cup flour
1/2 cup brewed coffee (cold)
1 cup used coffee grounds
1/4 cup clean playsand
Mixing bowl and spoon
Items to imprint (make fossils): seahshells, chicken bones, twigs and leaves

What you do:
1. Measure salt, flour, coffee and grounds into bowl and stir together
    until mixed well.

2. Turn mixture out onto waxed paper, roll in playsand, and kneed until smooth.

3. Break off a piece of dough and roll ino a ball.

4. Press object into the dough and remove carefully.

5. Allow to dry overnight and you have your own fossil.

What is happening:
What you are doing is very much like the way real fossils are created.
A longtime ago, plants, bugs and animals left impressions in the soft mud
which later became hard. Much of what we know about ancient, extinct
animals and plants comes from fossils. For example, that is how we know
what texture the dinosaur skin or whether a bird had skin or feathers.

Store unused dough in an air tight container.
